James Pickens Jr., known for his role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” has revealed that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The revelation comes just days after an episode aired in which his character, Dr. Richard Webber, is also diagnosed with cancer.

The 73-year-old actor spoke to “Black Health Matters” about the moment he learned of his diagnosis. He mentioned that prostate cancer runs in his family.

Due to his family history, Pickens underwent regular check-ups. During an annual examination in January, doctors detected elevated PSA levels and referred him to a urologist. A biopsy revealed a tumor that had not spread beyond the prostate.

The actor underwent a radical prostatectomy to remove the tumor. James Pickens Jr. is sharing his story to help eliminate the stigma surrounding men's health.
