The Onassis Hospital is expected to become a National Transplant Center, ending the need for pediatric transplants abroad. 15-year-old Dimitris underwent a liver transplant in Turin.

Mr. Ioannis Boletis, President of Onassis Hospital, stated that the hospital is transforming into a specialized center capable of meeting the country's needs in transplants.

The Onassis Hospital was founded in 1993 by the Onassis Foundation, providing high-quality cardiac surgery services. Since 1995, it has had a heart transplant program with more than 250 successful operations. Since 2020, lung transplantation has also started, with the support of the Onassis Foundation for the training of staff in Vienna.
