David Baltimore, Nobel Prize Winner in Medicine, Dies

Biologist David Baltimore, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1975 for his research on retroviruses, has died at the age of 87.
A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he is considered a major figure in molecular biology. His research focused on the discovery of a viral enzyme that explained the replication of genetic information in cells, which was crucial for the development of gene therapies.
His career was marked by a scientific fraud case in 1986, from which he was definitively cleared in 1996.
