A significant decline in vehicle sales has been recorded in Paphos due to car recalls, according to Andreas Siikkis, President of the Paphos Car Dealers Association. As he stated to the Cyprus News Agency, the situation has worsened due to delays in the arrival of spare parts, especially TAKATA airbags.

Mr. Siikkis mentioned that thousands of vehicles have been recalled for reasons not only related to airbags, but also to fuel tanks and brake systems. Delays are causing problems for importers and used car dealers from Japan.

The Car Dealers Association has sent requests to the relevant Ministry, asking for an acceleration of the process of receiving new airbags, so that they can be installed free of charge. Mr. Siikkis described the situation as worrying, as many importing companies have been left with high stocks.

Regarding the vehicle rental sector, the picture is satisfactory due to the tourist season; however, he stressed the need for a quick resolution of the problems associated with the recalls.
