Some dog breeds are considered hypoallergenic, but this depends on various conditions. According to dog trainer and nutrition consultant Melina Kyprianidi, allergies are not necessarily caused by fur, but by dander, saliva, tears, and urine.

All dogs produce allergenic proteins, but some breeds shed less or produce fewer allergens. Popular hypoallergenic breeds include Poodles, Schnauzers, Yorkshire Terriers, Maltese, Bichon Frises, Lagotto Romagnolos, Shih Tzus, Basenjis, and Xoloitzcuintlis.

Daily care of the dog and cleanliness of the house are essential to avoid allergies. Diet also plays an important role, as poor quality foods can cause skin problems.

Melina Kyprianidi is a graduate of the Positive Dog Training School of Giorgos Kyriakou and has various certifications related to dog training and nutrition.
