The Future of Liberalism: Challenges and Perspectives

Many proponents of liberalism are concerned about the increasing political pressures the ideology faces. From the Right to the Left, the fate of liberalism seems to concern few.

On the right, liberalism is seen as responsible for undermining traditional family values, increasing crime, and spreading corruption. On the left, it is accused of failing to curb the gap between rich and poor. However, neoliberalism is often blamed for events it is not responsible for.

As Cass R. Sunstein wrote in "On Liberalism: In Defense of Freedom," liberalism should be attractive to both sides, offering a constitutional basis for life, freedom of speech, respect for the free market, and protection of human rights.

Philip Pilkington, an advisor to Viktor Orban, in "The Collapse of Global Liberalism," argues that globalization and devotion to technology are responsible for modern social ills. However, this critique offers no solutions for the future.
