Artemis II: Crater Named in Honor of Astronaut's Late Wife

The astronauts of the Artemis II mission honored the memory of the late wife of mission commander Reid Wiseman by naming a crater on the Moon 'Carol'.
Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen announced the naming in a live broadcast, noting that the crater will be visible 'at specific times of the Moon's transit around the Earth'. Carol Taylor Wiseman passed away in 2020 from cancer.
The Artemis II crew also named a crater 'Integrity', after their spacecraft. The Artemis II mission has already set a record for distance from Earth.
Hansen emphasized the importance of the mission for inspiring future generations.
