A new study challenges traditional beliefs about the influence of the day of birth on a person's personality and abilities. The research, published in Psychology Today, examined 2,236 children in Britain from the ages of 5 to 18.

Psychology professor Sophie von Stumm and her colleagues analyzed traits such as attractiveness, physical grace, anxiety, academic performance, kindness, and work ethic, in relation to the participants' day of birth. The results showed that there is no statistically significant correlation between the day of birth and personality traits or abilities.

The study challenges popular perceptions, such as those expressed in the children's poem "Monday's Child", which links specific days of the week with specific traits. Von Stumm argues that such beliefs are self-fulfilling prophecies, where parents invest more resources and expectations in children born on days considered "lucky."

The research concludes that personality and abilities are shaped by a complex combination of biological, family, and cultural factors, and not by the day of birth.
