A planet with many similarities to our Sun has been detected in the Alpha Centauri star system, approximately four and a half light-years from Earth. Scientists believe that the moons of this planet may be habitable.

Signs of the planet were detected by the James Webb Space Telescope. Dr. Carly Howett, Associate Professor of Space Instrumentation at the University of Oxford, stated that the planet orbits a star similar to the Sun, with similar temperature and luminosity.

The planet is a gas giant, similar to Saturn and Jupiter, and would not be able to support life. However, its moons could be habitable. Astronomers will now look for more signs of the planet using NASA's Grace Roman Space Telescope, which is expected to be operational in 2027.

Future observations from the James Webb Space Telescope will be used to determine the composition of the planet through spectral imaging.
