In a press conference, Oscars producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan stated that the "in memoriam" segment will be larger this year. O'Brien, speaking to Extra, described the tribute as difficult to describe but emphasized that it would be a significant moment of the evening.

Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead at their Los Angeles home on December 14. Their son, Nick Reiner, is accused of their murder and remains in custody. The next court date is scheduled for April 29.
