Matthew McConaughey: Why His Mother Didn't Cover His Father After Death

Matthew McConaughey has spoken about the death of his father, James “Big Jim” McConaughey, who passed away in 1992 while having sex with his wife, Mary Kathlene McCabe. The actor revealed that his mother insisted on not covering his father's body after his death.

According to McConaughey, when the paramedics arrived, Mary Kathlene refused to have James' body covered, saying, “No, no, I want the world to see why they called him Big Jim, don't cover him up.” McConaughey described the story in his book “Greenlights” (2020), where he refers to his parents' tumultuous relationship; they married three times and divorced twice.

In an interview, McConaughey mentioned that his mother had said on the show “Red Table Talk” that her husband died while making love to her. He also revealed that for a decade, he had been estranged from his mother because she leaked his personal information to the press, but today they have restored their relationship.
