Their relationship began in April 2023, although they first met in 2006. Their romantic story started after the Lumière Festival in Lyon in 2022, where Tim Burton received an award from Monica Bellucci.

The relationship was confirmed in June 2023, when Bellucci stated in Elle France: "I am happy to have met this man… He is one of those encounters that rarely happen in life… I love Tim and I have great respect for him."

The two collaborated on the film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, with Burton directing and Bellucci playing the role of Dolores. Bellucci was married to Vincent Cassel (1997-2013) and had a relationship with Nicolas Lefebvre until 2019. Burton had a long-term relationship with Helena Bonham Carter before they separated in 2014.
