Soul Legend D’Angelo Dies at 51

Legendary R&B and neo-soul singer D’Angelo has died at the age of 51 after a battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by his family in a statement.

Michael D’Angelo Archer, his real name, was born in South Richmond, Virginia, and began his career in 1995 with the album Brown Sugar. He followed up with the albums Voodoo (2000) and Black Messiah (2014), which earned him four Grammy Awards.

D'Angelo is considered a pioneer of the neo-soul music scene, combining R&B, hip-hop, and soul elements. Collaborators and fans have expressed their grief over his loss on social media.
