French Actor Tchéky Karyo Dies at 72

The world of cinema mourns the death of French actor Tchéky Karyo, of Turkish and Greek descent, who passed away at the age of 72.
Karyo appeared in approximately 80 films, including Jean-Jacques Annaud's 'The Bear' and Luc Besson's 'Nikita'. His family announced that he lost his battle with cancer on Friday, October 31, in Brittany, France.
Born in Istanbul in 1953 to a Turkish father and a Greek mother, Karyo rose to fame in the 1980s with the film 'La Balance', for which he was nominated for a César Award. International successes followed, such as 'La Femme Nikita' and 'The Bear', as well as American productions like 'Bad Boys' and James Bond's 'GoldenEye'.
He also collaborated with Jean-Pierre Jeunet ('Amélie'), Walter Salles, and Ridley Scott. In recent years, he gained popularity with television audiences for his role as Inspector Julien Baptiste in the series 'The Missing' and 'Baptiste'.
In addition to acting, Karyo was also involved in music.
