Actor Tchéky Karyo, Known for 'Nikita', Dies

French actor Tchéky Karyo has died at the age of 72, his family announced.

Born in Istanbul in 1953, Karyo became known for his role in Luc Besson's 1990 film 'Nikita', as well as Jean-Jacques Annaud's 1988 film 'The Bear'.

According to a statement from his family to AFP, the actor "lost his battle with cancer."
