Pitino: "There are no point guards in the NBA anymore"

Rick Pitino, former coach of Panathinaikos, argues that the traditional point guard position is disappearing from the NBA.
In statements to American media, Pitino stated that teams no longer have pure playmakers who control the pace of the game and create opportunities for their teammates. "There are no point guards anymore. Who's the PG of the Knicks, Lakers, Celtics, Thunder? PG's totally done…", he stated.
Pitino emphasized that players playing in the "1" position are now more scorers or combo guards, changing the way teams operate. Examples such as Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who are offensively-minded, reinforce his statements.
Pitino's statement has opened a discussion about the evolution of the point guard role in modern basketball.
