Lewandowski's Return to Poland National Team? Urban Gives "Green Light"
Poland's new national coach, Jan Urban, revealed that he spoke with Robert Lewandowski about a potential return to the national team. Urban stated that the 36-year-old Barcelona striker expressed a positive attitude towards returning.
"I spoke with Robert Lewandowski on the phone and asked him if he wants to return," Urban said, adding that Lewandowski responded positively. Lewandowski is Poland's all-time top scorer with 85 goals in 158 appearances.
Lewandowski's departure from the national team was linked to former coach MichaĆ Probierz's decision to remove Lewandowski as captain and give it to Piotr ZieliĆski. Urban emphasized that the captaincy issue will be discussed with all involved, including ZieliĆski.
Poland's next match is on September 4 away against the Netherlands and on September 7 at home against Finland. Lewandowski's potential return has created optimism among fans for the effort to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
