FIFA Faces Billion-Dollar Lawsuit Over Transfer Regulations
Share on:

FIFA is facing a class-action lawsuit that could cost it billions of euros, regarding its transfer regulations. The Dutch Foundation for Justice (Players’ Justice Foundation - JfP) has filed a lawsuit against FIFA and several European federations, accusing them of violating labor rights.

According to the JfP, FIFA's regulations have negatively affected approximately 100,000 professional footballers in the EU and the United Kingdom since 2002. JfP President Lucia Melcherts stated that players have suffered significant financial damage due to these regulations.

The lawsuit follows the case of Lassana Diarra, who was vindicated by the Court of the European Union regarding transfer regulations. Diarra's lawyer, Jean-Louis Dupont, signed the class-action lawsuit on behalf of the Dutch foundation. FIFA and the Dutch federation have not commented.
