Lanoy: Age Limits for Referees Abolished in Greece

Frenchman Stephane Lanoy, head of the Central Refereeing Committee (KED), has introduced a new system in Greek refereeing, abolishing age limits for the promotion and retention of referees in the categories, following the German model.

Now, referees and assistant referees can be promoted at any age, provided they successfully pass the necessary exams and fitness tests. This means that referees like Tasos Sidiropoulos do not face any issues regarding their stay in the lists due to age.

In addition, the two-year service requirement in the previous category for promotion has been abolished, now one year is enough, provided that the KED is convinced of the referee's value. There is no age limit for VAR referees.
