Newell's Old Boys Attempt to Persuade Messi for 2027

Newell's Old Boys are trying to persuade Lionel Messi to return to the team in 2027. The club's first vice-president, Juan Manuel Medina, confirmed that they are working to convince the Argentine superstar to wear the jersey of his childhood team for the first half of 2027.

"It is a project that goes beyond the Newell's team. It includes the city of Rosario, the province, and Argentine football," Medina said, according to ESPN.

Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, signed a contract extension with Inter Miami until the end of 2028. He played for Newell's youth teams from 1995 to 2000 before moving to Barcelona's academy.

Inter Miami will begin the 2026 MLS season on February 21. Messi is also preparing to defend Argentina's World Cup title in the summer of 2026, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
