Kasper Schmeichel: Career Possibly Over Due to Injury

Kasper Schmeichel, in an emotional interview with his father, Peter Schmeichel, revealed that he may have played his last football game. The 38-year-old goalkeeper is facing serious shoulder problems and requires two surgeries.
Schmeichel was injured on February 22, 2026, and will undergo the first surgery this month, missing Denmark's World Cup play-off semi-final against North Macedonia on March 26.
"I could’ve potentially played my last football game," Schmeichel told CBS Sports Golazo. "By the time I can get back to my best form, I’ll be 40+."
The Danish goalkeeper described his injury as a torn bicep, torn rotator cuff, shoulder dislocation, and torn labrum, estimating that he will need 10-12 months of rehabilitation.
His father, Peter Schmeichel, expressed his love and support for his son, emphasizing that he does not want this great career to end with such a painful injury.
