New York City's Mayor, Zoran Mamdani, is a Shareholder in Real Oviedo

The newly elected mayor of New York City, Zoran Mamdani, has an unexpected connection to the Spanish team Real Oviedo. In 2012, at the age of 21, Mamdani bought shares in the team, which was then facing serious financial problems and was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Real Oviedo, playing in the lower divisions of Spanish football, launched a project where anyone could buy shares to help raise $1.6 million. Mamdani was one of those who responded.
After Mamdani's election as mayor, an old tweet of his went viral, in which he stated that he is probably the only Real Oviedo shareholder located in the New York area. The team itself congratulated Mamdani on his success, expressing its joy that a member of the club is in a position of power.
