IOC: Transgender Ban Looms for Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reportedly close to banning transgender athletes from competing in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Reports suggest a decision is expected within the next year.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry has pledged to protect the female category. The IOC is considering introducing gender verification tests, potentially using the SRY gene test, already implemented by World Athletics.
It remains unclear what will happen to athletes with male chromosomes who have grown up as women. The IOC faces internal opposition regarding the exclusion of athletes with differences in sexual development (DSD).
In a statement, the IOC emphasizes that no decisions have been made yet and that the relevant working group is continuing discussions.
The potential ban comes after an executive order by Donald Trump preventing transgender women from competing in female categories.
