Cyprus Public Transport (CPT) announced the completion and operation of the first photovoltaic electric vehicle charging station in Cyprus, with integrated energy storage for commercial use.

The project, implemented in collaboration with Ecotricity Holdings Ltd and Huawei Greece, is part of the University of Cyprus's 'EMS4PVBEV' project. The infrastructure combines solar energy production, storage, and electric vehicle charging.

At its core is the HUAWEI Smart String Energy Storage System (LUNA2000-97kWh), which was inspected by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus and officially put into operation on May 15, 2025.

According to CPT, the new technology increases the energy autonomy of the electric bus fleet, reduces operating costs, and contributes to the use of clean energy. Andreas Dimitriades, Director of Technology and Innovation at CPT, stated that the project is 'an important step towards a smarter and more efficient transport network with environmental responsibility'.

The 'EMS4PVBEV' project is funded by the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility, through the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.
