UK Restricts Pornhub Access Due to Online Safety Act

Pornhub is restricting access for users in the United Kingdom starting February 2nd, due to stricter age verification requirements imposed by the British Online Safety Act (OSA). Only users with existing accounts will have access, while new visitors will be completely blocked.

Aylo, which owns Pornhub, argues that the law does not protect minors and drives traffic to unregulated areas of the internet. Pornhub's traffic decreased by 77% after the law's implementation.

Ofcom maintains that the measures prevent children from accessing inappropriate content. The British government states that the law does not prohibit adults from accessing legal content but requires age verification.

Despite the restrictions, Pornhub remains the largest platform for pornographic content in the UK. The implementation of age checks led to an increase in VPN downloads.

Experts emphasize the need for multi-layered security measures to protect children online.
