Cyprus has launched its first national quantum communication network, implemented by the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) under the CYQCI project. Led by Professor Kyriakos Kallis, the project was co-funded by the European Commission and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.

The technical implementation, overseen by Dr. Mariella Minter, involved installing Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) links between seven state organizations, enhancing communication security.

The network was presented on June 5th at the Digital Security Authority (DSA), with a live video call between the DSA and the Deputy Ministry confirming its readiness. Dr. Konstantinos Katzis announced plans for expansion via satellite channels and connection to EuroQCI.

The event included representatives from CUT, DSA, the Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation, and companies like Quantum Telecommunications Italy, Adtran, and Officina Stellare.

The network's development enhances Cyprus's digital sovereignty and prepares it for the challenges of quantum computers.
