Cyprus Achieves Quantum Leap in Cybersecurity with Network

Scientists from the Technological University of Cyprus (TEPAK) led the development of Cyprus' first national quantum communication network under the CYQCI initiative.
The project, led by Professor Kyriakos Kallis and Dr. Mariella Minter, was co-funded by the European Commission and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (YEKΨΠ).
The network includes Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) links between seven state entities, providing secure communication. The successful operation was presented at the Digital Security Authority (AΨΑ) on June 5, featuring a live video call between AΨΑ and YEKΨΠ.
Dr. Konstantinos Katzis announced plans to expand the network via satellite connections, in collaboration with other EU member states.
The development of the QKD network comes at a time of increasing cybersecurity threats, with the evolution of quantum computers posing new challenges.
