According to reinsurance company Munich Re, if cybercrime were a country, it would be the third richest in the world, after the USA and China. Its turnover is expected to reach $14 trillion by 2028, due to the increasing complexity and automation of cyberattacks.

Martin Kreuzer of Munich Re, stated that criminals are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make their attacks more effective, using personalized emails and malware.

The most widespread attacks are ransomware, where hackers lock digital systems and demand ransom. Small and medium-sized enterprises are particularly vulnerable.

Cybercrime is also used as a tool for industrial espionage and geopolitical competition, with disinformation being a key element.
