Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, plans mass layoffs, cutting 10% of its workforce, approximately 8,000 employees, and eliminating 6,000 open positions. This comes as the company shifts its focus to developing Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, expects that artificial intelligence will gradually replace much of the work currently done in the technology industry.

Janelle Gale, Head of Human Resources at Meta, stated that the layoffs are part of an effort to operate more efficiently and offset investments in AI.

Meta employed more than 78,000 employees at the end of 2025.

Zuckerberg is reorganizing the company with a focus on artificial intelligence products, in competition with companies such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.
