Meta Freezes AI Hiring After Spending Spree

Meta Platforms is freezing hiring in its Artificial Intelligence (AI) division after months of aggressive recruitment and growing concerns about costs.
According to Wall Street Journal sources, the hiring freeze took effect last week and is accompanied by a broader restructuring of the group. The duration of the freeze has not been announced.
Exceptions to external hires will only be considered with the approval of AI chief Alexandr Wang.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the freeze, emphasizing that it is part of a "basic organizational design to create a stable structure for new superintelligence efforts."
The restructuring divides AI efforts into four groups: TBD Lab (superintelligence), AI products, infrastructure, and Fundamental AI Research (long-term research).
This move comes after concerns about Meta's large expenditures on hiring AI talent, with some offers reaching $100 million.
