SpaceX Plans 1 Million Satellites for AI Support

SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, has filed an application to launch 1 million satellites to support Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. The application was submitted to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The company claims that "orbital data centers" will be the most economical and energy-efficient way to meet the growing demand for AI computing power, exceeding "terrestrial capabilities."

The satellites will operate on solar energy in orbit around the Earth and in low orbit, at altitudes of 500 to 2,000 kilometers. SpaceX argues that orbital data centers are a greener alternative to traditional data centers.

If approved, the application will significantly increase the number of SpaceX satellites in orbit. The existing Starlink network has nearly 10,000 satellites.
