The Toyota Land Cruiser is introducing an electrified powertrain for the first time, incorporating 48-volt hybrid technology. This technology promises improved on and off-road performance while maintaining the SUV's off-road character.

Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform with a body-on-frame chassis, the Land Cruiser effectively manages demanding conditions and ensures smooth on-road behavior.

The mild hybrid system combines the existing 2.8-liter diesel engine with an 8-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission, an electric motor-generator, a lithium-ion battery, and a DC-DC converter. The components are designed to withstand harsh environments, maintaining the vehicle's capabilities. The electric motor-generator is positioned high to maintain the ability to traverse water up to 700mm deep.

The driver is informed about the hybrid system's operation via the instrument panel, and in stop-start mode, there is an option to adjust the engine shutdown duration.

The 48-volt hybrid system will be adopted by all European Land Cruiser models, with the first deliveries scheduled for the end of the year.
