WeTransfer: Privacy Concerns Over New Terms of Service

WeTransfer's new terms of service have sparked concerns, particularly among artists, regarding privacy and the use of their content. According to the terms published on July 14 and subsequently revised, WeTransfer obtains a "perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable license to use your Content" for various purposes, including improving its services and technology.

This license includes the right to reproduce, distribute, modify, and publicly display the content, without compensation to users. Following backlash, the company revised the terms, but still retains the right to use the content for operating and improving the service.

WeTransfer's Privacy Policy states that there are instances where the company may not delete users' personal data, particularly if the data is necessary to protect the services from fraudulent or illegal activities. This ambiguity in the terms of use has raised concerns about the protection of user privacy.

WeTransfer clarified that the clause for training artificial intelligence was abandoned, but the company retains the right to reuse user content, which was also the case before the addition of the controversial wording.
