WhatsApp Deletes Millions of Scam Accounts

Meta announced that WhatsApp deleted 6.8 million accounts linked to scams in the first half of the year. Many of these accounts were connected to criminal organizations in Southeast Asia, which used forced labor.
WhatsApp has implemented new measures to protect users from scams, such as warning when someone adds a user to a group chat without being on their contact list. The company also collaborated with OpenAI to disrupt scams linked to a criminal group in Cambodia.
Scam centers worth billions of dollars are known to operate in countries such as Myanmar, Cambodia, and Thailand, recruiting and forcing people to carry out scams.
