Nördlingen: The Town Built with 72,000 Tons of Diamonds

In the heart of Bavaria lies Nördlingen, a town built with approximately 72,000 tons of diamonds. Its uniqueness has attracted the interest of NASA and Hollywood.
Until the 1960s, residents were unaware of the diamonds. It was revealed that the area was struck by an asteroid millions of years ago, creating a crater and suevite, a rock containing diamonds.
Settlers, arriving in 898 AD, used suevite as a building material, unaware of the high concentration of diamonds. The origin of the crater was considered volcanic until the asteroid impact was confirmed in the 1960s.
