Düsseldorf: A Historic Metropolis on the Banks of the Rhine

Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, has evolved into a significant business and economic center, as well as a popular destination for cultural tourism. The city is traversed by the Rhine River and is home to approximately 600,000 residents, including over 11,000 Greeks.
The Old Town (Altstadt), with its medieval charm, offers more than 300 traditional pubs, breweries, and restaurants. In the Market Square are the Renaissance-style Town Hall and the Basilica of St. Lambertus, a 13th-century church with a distinctive twisted spire.
Also worth visiting are the baroque Benrath Palace, housing the Museum of European Garden Art and the Museum of Natural History, and the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen museum, featuring works by Picasso, Matisse, and Mondrian. The Jägerhof Castle (Schloss Jägerhof) houses the Goethe Museum, with a large collection of items from the German poet.
