Stay Quiet: Free Accommodation in Sweden Requires Absolute Silence

In southern Sweden, the Skåne region offers free accommodation through the “Stay Quiet” project. Visitors are hosted in wooden cabins (stuga) in the forest, on the condition that they maintain absolute silence.
Each cabin is equipped with a decibel meter. If the permissible noise limit is exceeded, the stay is terminated. The aim of the project is not to impose a penalty, but to highlight the importance of silence for health.
Applications for 2025 have already closed, but “Stay Quiet” has attracted international interest, raising awareness of the effects of noise and proposing a therapeutic approach to tourism through conscious silence.
