Lost Luggage on Vacation: What to Do

By Staff
Share on:

Losing luggage during vacation can be stressful. The Guardian provides advice on what to do in this situation.

Immediate Reporting: Visit the airline's office and fill out the official loss report (PIR). If there is no office, call the airline. Save the reference number.

Compensation Rights: You are entitled to compensation for essential items (toiletries, clothing, medicines). Compensation is lower if the loss occurs upon returning home. If the luggage is not found after 21 days, it is officially considered lost, and you can apply for compensation (up to 1,500 euros).

Tips to Reduce the Risk:

  • Labels with contact information
  • Photos of luggage
  • Direct flights
  • Carry-on with essentials
  • Immediate luggage collection

After reporting, the airline will try to locate your luggage and will inform you. If not found after 21 days, claim compensation.
