Egypt: 19 Killed in Truck-Minibus Collision

At least 19 people were killed in a traffic accident in the Menoufia province of northern Egypt when a truck collided with a minibus. Among the victims are 18 female day laborers, two of whom were 14 years old.
The accident occurred when the truck collided with the bus transporting workers from the village of Kafr al Sanabsa, about 100 kilometers north of Cairo, in the Nile Delta, according to the Akhbar al Youm newspaper.
Local media described the victims as "martyrs of work for daily bread" and called on authorities to improve the condition of the road where the accident occurred. Traffic accidents are frequent in Egypt due to uneven enforcement of traffic laws and the poor condition of the road network.
The Egyptian statistical agency recorded over 5,200 road deaths in 2024. According to the latest official figures, at least 1.3 million minors work in Egypt.
