Over 70 people have been killed in a gang attack in the town of Petit-Rivière, Haiti, according to the UN special envoy. The attack, which occurred over the weekend, is believed to have been carried out by members of the 'Gran Grif' gang.

Carlos Ruiz Massieu, the UN special envoy, said the attacks were violent and coordinated. He called for increased support for Haiti to combat gangs.

According to local authorities, the 'Gran Grif' gang attacked the Jean-Denis neighborhood, setting fire to homes and causing death. Many residents were forced to flee their homes.

A report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that gang violence in Haiti has caused more than 5,500 deaths from March 2025 to mid-January.

Haiti has been plagued by criminal gang violence, which commits murders, rapes, looting and kidnappings.
