India: Dozens Killed in Stampede at Election Rally

At least 31 people were killed and over 58 injured in a stampede at an election rally of actor-politician Vijay in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, according to the Hindu newspaper.

A large crowd had gathered for the rally, part of Vijay's campaign for his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the incident.

Elections in the state are expected to be held early next year.
