Iran: 'Black Widow' Accused of Killing 11 Husbands

A case involving Kolsoum Akbari, accused of murdering 11 of her husbands over two decades, has shocked public opinion in Iran. Akbari allegedly systematically poisoned her husbands with drugs and toxic substances in order to inherit from them.
The case came to light in 2023 after the death of Azizollah Babaei. His family, suspicious of the circumstances surrounding his death, requested an investigation. A significant revelation followed when a family friend reported a similar story involving Akbari.
Akbari was arrested in September 2023 and confessed to the murders during interrogation. More than 45 plaintiffs, mainly family members of the victims, have denounced the 'black widow.' The families of four victims have requested the death penalty.
Investigations suggest that Akbari's number of victims may be higher than she has admitted. She reportedly had 19 marriages, and all of her husbands died.
