China Introduces Annual Allowance to Boost Birth Rates
Share on:

China is introducing an annual allowance to boost birth rates in an effort to address population decline. The allowance will affect approximately 20 million families with children under the age of three.

Parents will receive 3,600 yuan annually (435 euros) for each child up to the age of three, retroactive from the beginning of the year. This is the first time such an allowance has been established at the national level.

Several regions had already established allowances, with the city of Hohhot offering up to 100,000 yuan annually for families with three or more children, and Shenyang offering 500 yuan per month to families with a third child under the age of three.

Data shows that China's population shrank slightly for the third consecutive time in 2024.
