At least 16 people were killed and 40 injured in a shooting attack in Sydney, Australia. Police confirmed that the perpetrators were a father and son. The 50-year-old father was killed by police, while his 24-year-old son is hospitalized.

The attack took place at Bondi Beach, with witnesses reporting gunfire lasting approximately 10 minutes. Authorities have described the attack as a terrorist and anti-Semitic act, targeting the Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack and convened a meeting of the National Security Council. Flags are flying at half-mast across the country as a sign of mourning.

A bystander, Ahmed al Ahemd, was hailed as a hero for his intervention, grabbing the gun from one of the perpetrators.

Police are investigating the case and the possible involvement of a third perpetrator. The attack is one of the worst in Australia since 1996.
