According to witnesses, the perpetrators fired on the crowd for 10 minutes. Approximately 1,000 people were attending the event. One of the perpetrators was killed, while a second is hospitalized in critical condition. Police are investigating whether a third perpetrator was involved.

The Premier of New South Wales, Chris Minns, described the attack as targeted against the Jewish community. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attack and convened a meeting of the National Security Council.
