At least 19 people have been killed in Nepal during violent anti-government protests. The protests took place in two cities, with police using tear gas and rubber bullets in the capital, Kathmandu.

The protesters, mainly young people, were expressing anger over corruption and the blocking of social networking sites. They attempted to storm the parliament, where they set fire to an ambulance.

The Interior Minister, Ramesh Lekhak, resigned taking 'moral responsibility' for the violence. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli convened an emergency cabinet meeting.

Protests also took place in Biratnagar, Bharatpur and Pokhara.
