Peru: State of Emergency Declared in Lima

The interim President of Peru, José Herí, has declared a state of emergency in the capital, Lima, and the port of Callao for 30 days.

The decision was made to address the wave of violent crimes and extortions attributed to organized crime.

The state of emergency took effect from midnight on Tuesday (local time).
