At least 460 people have been killed in an attack on a maternity hospital in El Fasher, Sudan, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO has called for an immediate ceasefire.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have seized El Fasher and now control the entire Darfur region, establishing a parallel government opposed to the army under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attacks on healthcare infrastructure and called for the protection of patients and healthcare workers, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Since April 2023, the WHO has recorded 185 attacks on health facilities in Sudan, resulting in 1,204 deaths and 416 injuries.
