Syria: National Museum of Damascus Burglarized – Ancient Gold Bars Stolen

Burglars broke into the National Museum of Damascus in Syria and stole ancient gold bars. According to sources, the theft occurred on the night of Sunday to Monday.

According to a source close to the museum's management, six pieces were stolen from the 'classical' wing, which houses Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine exhibits.

The museum's management declined to comment, and the Syrian authorities have not confirmed the incident. Museum employees and guards were arrested and interrogated.

The museum, which was not damaged during the civil war (2011-2024), remains closed for security reasons.
