An American, Jason Lee Beckwith, bought an entire village in Spain for the price of an apartment. The village, Salto de Castro, is located on the border with Portugal and was purchased for 310,000 euros.

Jason Lee Beckwith sold his business in California and was looking for properties in Europe. Salto de Castro includes a church, a school, a bar, and a swimming pool. However, the village is in a dilapidated state, and renovation is expected to cost around 7 million euros.

According to Timur Negru of AffordiHome, the reasons Americans are buying in the European countryside are easy access to the internet via satellite (Starlink), the need to escape overtourism, and high real estate prices in the USA.
